Borderlands in dialogue: A talk at the Centre Universitaire de Mayotte

In a talk that will join the insights of fieldwork in two distant and diverse EU borderlands, our associate, Chiara Quagliariello will explore what she terms “deterritorialized births.” On Wednesday, November 20, Chiara will discuss the findings of her 2016-2017 research in the island of Lampedusa. Specifically, she will lay out the social, cultural, medical, and economic stakes of the island residents’ reproductive mobility, and the context the history of this mobility has formed for pregnant migrants arriving in the island in the present day. She will further link this analysis to her current research of migrant maternity in Mayotte.
